The
lake and forested hills of this reserve, 32 km from Bikaner on the Jaisalmer
road, are inhabited by wildfowl, hares, wild boar, desert foxes and a number of
deer and antelopes including black bucks and blue bulls. The lake at Gajner
attracts water birds in thousands. Imperial sand house migrate here in winter.
Gajner Wildlife Sanctuary, houses the former Hunting lodge of Bikaner and has a
beautiful lake surrounded by a dense forest.

Day 3- Gajner to Phalodi

Located
141 km from Jodhpur District headquarters, Phalodi is an old caravan center in
Thar Desert. A dessert town in erstwhile state of Marwar was originally known
as Phalverdika or Vijaypur Patan and thereafter Phaluerdika. This town was a
trading center being on the land route from North Western India into Central
India. It was originally under the rule of Rao Maldev Rathore of Jodhpur.
Thereafter for a short while this town came under the direct rule of Emperor
Akbar who gifted this town to the Rulers of Jaisalmer. Many a wars have been
fought to have custody of Phalodi which for long has been an important trading
town between Maharajas of Jaisalmer, Bikaner & Jodhpur.

Day 4- Phalodi to Jaisalmer

Rising
from the heart of the Thar Desert like a golden mirage is the city of
Jaisalmer. A commanding fort etched in yellow sandstone stands, with its
awesome splendor, dominating the amber-hued city.
The
city has an interesting legend associated with it, according to which, Lord
Krishna – the head of the Yadav Clan, foretold Arjuna that a remote descendent
of the Yadav Clan would build his kingdom atop the Trikuta Hill. His prophecy
was fulfilled in 1156 AD when Rawal Jaisal, a descendent of the Yadav Clan and
a Bhatti Rajput, abandoned his fort at Lodurva and founded a new capital –
Jaisalmer, perched on the Trikuta Hill. His Yadav descent can be traced back to
the Mahabharata and the Rajputs were famed for courage and gallantry.
Jaisalmer
is studded with magnificent tourist haunts that encapsulates the vivacious
culture of this lovely locale. It is laced with beautiful forts, sacred
shrines, stately havelis reminiscent of the yester years, well stacked museums
and a rippling lake.

Before
Breakfast, visit the Sam Sand Dunes and witness the amazing Sun Rise at the
Desert. Later enjoy breakfast at the Camp Site and later proceed for a full day
tour of Jaisalmer. Visit the JAISALMER FORT – The oldest living Fort in the
world. Also visit the NATHMAL KI HAVELI, SALIM SINGH KI HAVELI, PATWON JI KI
HAVELI, GODI SAGAR LAKE, TAZIA TOWER & JAIN TEMPLES.

Day 6- Jaisalmer to Osian

Osian
is an ancient town in the Thar Desert, situated 62 km north of Jodhpur, in
Rajasthan, famous for its exquisitely sculptured temples, most of which have
withstood the ravages of time. It was a major trading center dominated by the
Jains in the 8th and 12th centuries. Osian comes first at 62 km, literally in
the middle at the edge of the Thar Desert.

will be at the Camp Site in Osian
Day 7- Osian to Chandelao
Stretch:
Total Distance 120 Kms. Cycling of 50 Kms & Coach ride of 70 Kms
Nature
of Ride: Flat Terrain
The
tour to Chandelao begins with a Village Safari in Cycle whereby you
cross-country to the Weavers’ village, the Bishnois’ Village (The Bishnois are
a special community and the original environmentalists who fiercely protected
the antelopes and other species), the Potters’ Village, the Durry or
Stone-washed carpet weavers’ Village, a lake to see migratory birds from
Siberia and a whole lot of wildlife Enroute in form of antelopes like chinks,
bluebulls, blackbucks etc

Day 8- Chandelao to Dodiyan
Stretch:
Total Distance 125 Kms. Cycling of 50 Kms & Coach ride of 75 Kms
Nature
of Ride: Flat Terrain
This
used to be the hunting lodge of Mewar Rulers. This is now a green belt covering
acres of land which is under farming. The main sects living here are Jat’s
& Muslims. The hunting lodge is now converted into tourist lodge for long staying
writers & painters.

Day 9- Dodiyan to Jhag
Stretch:
Total Distance 110 Kms. Cycling of 50 Kms & Coach ride of 60 Kms
Nature
of Ride: Flat Terrain
Jhag
is a small village. The area is surrounded by Aravali hills & the village
is located right in the foothills of Aravalis & has a Salt lake as well.
Overnight will be at the Camp Site in Jhag.
Day 10- Jhag to Pushkar
Stretch:
Total Distance 100 Kms. Cycling of 50 Kms & Coach ride of 50 Kms
Nature
of Ride: Farm Land & Flat Terrain
Pushkar
is a holy pilgrimage for Hindu’s. The place has a holy lake where in the
Hindu’s perform religious prayers. The place is very famous among the tourists.
The Pushkar fair is also the main attraction among the foreign tourist as the
fair is mainly a Cattle Fair & lots of activities like Horse Race &
Folk dance is performed by the local & visiting villagers.
